What to stock in your protected space, emergency phone numbers, and equipment for people with disabilities.

The Home Front Command recommends keeping your protected space stocked with essential supplies for at least 3 days. Preparation also includes maintaining a written list of emergency contacts and ensuring special equipment for household members with disabilities.

Essential Equipment (for at least 3 days)

  • Water: 3 liters per person per day
  • Food: non-perishable food for all household members
  • Emergency lighting (flashlight and batteries)
  • First aid kit
  • Medicine and printed prescriptions
  • Battery-powered radio and spare batteries
  • Portable chargers for mobile devices
  • Unique food for specific household needs (babies, elderly, pets)
  • Backup batteries for essential equipment (especially medical devices)
  • Photocopies of essential documents (ID, driver’s license, passport)
  • Fire extinguisher and smoke detector
  • Cash sufficient for household needs
  • At least half a tank of fuel in the car
  • Activities for children (games, coloring materials, stationery)
  • Equipment and food for animals

Storage Tips

  • Store everything in a bag you can grab quickly if you need to relocate
  • Priority items: water, food, medicine, communication means
  • Items that must stay dry (documents, clothing): place in sealed plastic bags
  • If you have a MAMAD, store emergency equipment inside it
  • If items need refrigeration: attach a note to the bag and inform household members
  • Involve all household members in compiling the list; show them the contents and storage location

Appoint a household member responsible for periodic inspections. For gas: private homes should keep a spare tank full; shared buildings should ensure the storage tank is more than half full.

Equipment for People with Disabilities

General:

  • Medical documents: condition details, regular medications, allergies, communication difficulties
  • Medical status sheet from your family doctor
  • Special dry or canned food for unique nutritional needs
  • If dependent on a caregiver: wear a necklace or bracelet identifying your condition
  • Medical equipment: ensure battery operation is possible; keep backup batteries and chargers
  • Contact list: phone numbers and addresses of helpful relatives, neighbors, and organizations

Visual impairment:

  • Headphones and chargers (with backup batteries)
  • Mark equipment in large handwriting, luminous tape, or Braille
  • Phone numbers and addresses written in Braille or large print
  • Service dog equipment: food, medication, bowls, favorite toy, leash, mouth guard, thick socks (for broken glass), copies of dog license, vaccination certificates, and vet contact info

Hearing disability:

  • Hearing aid plus spare batteries or an independent charger
  • Cleaning kits and drying boxes for hearing aids
  • FM system, personal amplifier, or speakerphone (if routinely used)
  • Paper and writing utensils
  • List of sign language translators
  • Tag stating your need for communication mediation
  • Card identifying you as a sign language speaker, with messages such as “I only read lips”

Mobility disability:

  • Wheelchair users: puncture repair kit, pump, spare inner tubes, heavy-duty gloves for rough terrain
  • Motorized wheelchair or scooter: additional batteries, charger, and a non-motorized wheelchair as backup
  • If dependent on electricity: backup batteries or a generator
  • Tag indicating communication mediation needs (if applicable)
  • Hygiene products and assistive tool batteries/chargers

Emergency Phone Numbers

Keep a written list of these numbers — do not rely solely on your phone. Place copies with your emergency supplies and give one to each family member.

  • Note the skills of contacts (e.g., “David — medic,” “Neighbor — plumber,” “Friend — electrician”)
  • Include: emergency organizations, local municipality, family members, neighbors, and friends
  • In emergencies, remote assistance matters — emergency forces can guide you by phone (e.g., helping an injured person before an ambulance arrives)
